Earth Tone Bedroom Decor

Bedroom Decor Backstory

My partner and I have lived in our little 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house for 6 years (minus one - for the year we lived in Washington State). When we first moved in, I hated the builder grade yellow the entire house was painted so much that, in response, I painted everything a cooler grey tone. As time went by and we moved back into our little woodsy cottage when we returned from the West Coast, I knew I wanted to re-do the space in a way that felt more cozy and warm. Making sure the design was gender neutral and felt like a representation of me AND my partner was important. We both love earth tones, and being outdoors is our happy place, so bringing those elements were the basis for the decor plan. I also wanted to bring in more pattern, texture, and have some fun with it all! And most importantly, we had a small budget.

I haven’t completed the design quite yet. Mindful, sustainable decor is a slow process. We’ve gotten a fan over the bed (which has been so helpful for air flow and good sleep) but I’m still searching for the right artwork that we love and a light fixture for over the reading nook. Plus, there’s always room for more plants!

THE MAKEOVER

BEFORE

BEFORE I KNEW MUCH ABOUT DESIGN

This was how I pulled the room together when we first moved in. I was 25, we had a tiny budget, and I was obsessed with white bedding. We had to use the matching bedroom furniture set that had been gifted to my partner in college. I think it was sweet and fitting for our life at the time. We loved it and it served us well for quite a few years, but I was excited to give it a makeover when we got back. It was starting to feel a bit cold and bright when I wanted warm and earthy.

THE DESIGN PLAN

AFTER

A room full of earth tone bedroom decor with a green bed and big windows overlooking a forest.
A nightstand, bedside, and rug are earth tone bedroom decor in a lovely space.
A bookshelf, chair, and bed make up a room full of earth tone bedroom decor.
A beige pattern chair around earth tone bedroom decor sits in a corner. There is a bookshelf, a little table with candles, and a long curtain. A red lumbar patterned pillow sits on the chair.

Meet the Designer

Hey y’all! I’m Kathryn.

Interior Decorator, Plant Lover, Peacemaker

I love making spaces feel cozy, inviting, and warm. I think a home can absolutely be “imperfect” and even more special because of it. Function is just as important as design, and a space shouldn’t make your life harder to navigate. Good design makes things easier while also giving you a sense of comfort.
